Each morning before heading out the door I put on my usually still damp trekking shirt. It's a Sapient shirt. Grey with an orange, black outlined logo. I joke to myself "Trek sponsored by Sapient." In a way it is.
Before even leaving Bhandar I get my first view of mountains. Ice covered peaks way off in the distance. A few hours later I'm down in a valley. I'm walking through rebel territory, it's a nice sunny 85 degrees, the countryside is beautiful. This is the adventure that everyone dreams of. After lunch came my first test of will against the mountains. More than 3000 feet up in 2.5 hours. That's 20 feet up every minute for 2.5 hours!
At Sete, I'm greeted by a half dozen travelers. The most I've seen anywhere. Three English guys, an Austrian father and son and a Danish guy. No girls. Since we're all on the same schedule I'm assuming that I'll see these same 6 tourists every day until Namche. I heard a rumor of 3 French girls a day behind us. I might find any excuse to take a rest day and see if they catch up.
10am depart - 1 hour lunch - 4:30 arrival
